DOT Number & Authority Package

$449.00

Get your transportation business started with a USDOT number, operating authority (MC number), and the required BOC-3 filing. If you plan to haul freight for other people across state lines, these three filings are the legal foundation of your company, and this bundle is the most affordable way to get them filed right. The $300 FMCSA filing fee is included.

This is the authority-only version of our start-up packages. It deliberately leaves out the pieces that depend on your vehicle, like driver qualification files, drug testing, IFTA, and IRP, so you only pay for what your operation actually requires. If you want those handled too, our start-up packages include this bundle plus everything else for your vehicle class.

Either way, you get access to our partner network for insurance, factoring, and fuel cards, and lifetime compliance support: call, text, or email us with questions any time you you need help.

Who Needs This Package?

Anyone looking to operate across state lines (interstate) while being paid to transport property that doesn't belong to them (for-hire). That combination requires both a USDOT number and MC operating authority, plus a BOC-3 process agent filing, and this bundle covers all three. It is the authority-only version of our start-up packages: right if you already have your compliance pieces handled, or plan to add them as you go.

What Happens After I Order?

We contact you to confirm the company details you entered in the cart form and collect your business verification documents: your Articles of Organization or Incorporation and your EIN confirmation letter. The names on both must match. You'll also complete the FMCSA's electronic identity verification, which requires a US identity card. Then we file your DOT and MC together.

Most new applications now go into manual review at the FMCSA, which can take a few days up to a few weeks. We keep you posted throughout. Once your USDOT number is issued, your MC authority generates the next business day. We attach your BOC-3 and explain your insurance requirements. When your insurance is on file and the FMCSA's waiting period ends, your authority goes active.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this everything I need to start hauling?+

Not necessarily. This includes everything you need to obtain an authority, aside from an insurance policy, but depending on your vehicle you may also be subject to requirements it doesn't cover, like driver files, drug testing, IFTA, or IRP. Our start-up packages bundle those in by vehicle type.

What about driver files and drug testing?+

They may be required depending on the vehicles you'll run. Driver qualification files start at 10,001 lbs, and drug testing follows the CDL. We have packages built for sprinter vans, box trucks, CDL hot-shots, and semi-truck carriers that include the right ones.

What insurance do I need?+

Most carriers need $750,000 in commercial bodily injury & property damage (BIPD) to get their authority approved. We'll connect you with our insurance partner to answer your questions and provide quotes.

What if I don't need MC authority?+

If you only haul your own goods, or you stay inside one state, you may need just a DOT number. In that case our free USDOT number filing is the better fit, and we'll tell you so before you pay for authority you don't need.

How long does it take?+

We file as soon as we have your documents and identity verification. The FMCSA routes most new DOT applications into manual review, which can take a few days up to a few weeks. After your MC is granted, the FMCSA imposes a 21-day waiting period, and your insurance must be on file before your authority goes active. We keep you posted at every step.

Do I need an LLC and EIN before I order?+

Yes. The FMCSA's MOTUS system requires business verification documents when we file: your Articles of Organization or Incorporation and your EIN confirmation letter, with matching names. If you don't have them yet, we offer LLC filing and EIN application services so you can get everything in one place.

What is the BOC-3?+

A required filing that designates a process agent to receive legal documents on your behalf in every state. The FMCSA will not activate your authority without one on file, so it is included in this bundle.

What do I have to renew after the first year?+

Your UCR renews every calendar year, and the FMCSA requires a biennial MCS-150 update every two years. Neither is included in this bundle, but we file both, and lifetime compliance support means you can call or text us before you file anything.
