Who Needs This Package?
CDL hot-shot carriers running a pickup truck and gooseneck trailer, or a similar setup, with a combined weight rating over 26,000 lbs. That weight makes it a CDL combination, and the CDL brings the full stack of federal requirements with it: drug and alcohol testing, Clearinghouse registration, driver qualification files, IFTA, and IRP. If you're crossing state lines for hire, you need everything in this package, and it is priced well below buying the pieces separately.
What Happens After I Order?
We contact you to confirm the company details you entered in the cart form and collect your business verification documents: your Articles of Organization or Incorporation and your EIN confirmation letter. The names on both must match. You'll also complete the FMCSA's electronic identity verification, which requires a US identity card. Then we file your DOT and MC together.
Most new applications now go into manual review at the FMCSA, which can take a few days up to a few weeks. We keep you posted throughout. Once your USDOT number is issued, your MC authority generates the next business day and we attach your BOC-3. While the FMCSA's 21-day waiting period runs, we set up your IFTA, IRP, driver file, drug testing, and Clearinghouse accounts so nothing is left to do when your insurance is on file and your authority goes active.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a CDL for hot-shot?+
If your truck and trailer's combined weight rating is over 26,000 lbs, yes. The CDL requirement is what triggers the drug testing and Clearinghouse requirements built into this package.
Do I need IFTA and IRP for hot-shot?+
If your truck and trailer combined weigh over 26,000 lbs or your truck has 3 or more axles, yes. IFTA covers interstate fuel tax and IRP covers apportioned registration, and both are included here.
What if my combination is under 26,000 lbs?+
Look at our Box Truck Start-Up Package instead. Under 26,000 lbs you won't need IFTA, IRP, or drug testing, so there is no reason to pay for them.
What's the difference between this and the Semi-Truck package?+
The 2290 heavy vehicle use tax filing. Your hot-shot rig is under 55,000 lbs, so you don't owe HVUT. Otherwise the compliance requirements are the same as a semi-truck carrier.
How long until I can start hauling?+
We file as soon as we have your documents and identity verification. The FMCSA routes most new DOT applications into manual review, which can take a few days up to a few weeks. After your MC is granted there is a 21-day waiting period, which we use to build out your IFTA, IRP, driver file, and testing accounts. Once your insurance is on file and the waiting period ends, you're active.
Do I need an LLC and EIN before I order?+
Yes. The FMCSA's MOTUS system requires business verification documents when we file: your Articles of Organization or Incorporation and your EIN confirmation letter, with matching names. If you don't have them yet, we offer LLC filing and EIN application services so you can get everything in one place.
What about a medical card?+
Every CDL driver needs a valid DOT medical card, and it has to be on file in your driver qualification file. If you don't have a current card, we can schedule a DOT physical exam near you.
What do I have to renew after the first year?+
Your UCR renews every calendar year, IFTA returns file quarterly, your consortium enrollment and Clearinghouse queries renew annually, and the FMCSA requires a biennial MCS-150 update every two years. We offer IFTA quarterly reports as an add-on at checkout, and lifetime compliance support means you can call or text us before you file anything.
