How do I know if I need an authority?

An authority is generally required if you operate as a for-hire carrier and intend to operate in interstate commerce (crossing state lines) - while using vehicles with a GVWR/GCWR of 10,001lbs or more. However, many carriers who plan on using cargo vans under 10,001lbs often obtain a DOT Number & Authority to access load boards like DAT, Truckstop, etc. If you plan on operating as a broker or freight forwarder, an authority is always required. If you’re still unsure whether or not you need an authority, contact us for direct consultation.

What happens after I place my order?

We’ll get in touch with you shortly after we receive your order to gather some details about your operation including your company name, EIN, physical & mailing address, etc. Once we’ve obtained all the information required to proceed, we’ll submit your application and obtain your USDOT number immediately. Your authority will be generated the following day — we’ll provide it to you as soon as it’s been generated. All authorities are subject to a minimum 21-day waiting period before your MC number can be authorized. During this time, we’ll attach the BOC-3 and provide guidance on your insurance requirements. While you can operate intrastate-only before your authority is active, you must obtain an insurance policy and wait for the 21-day waiting period to end before your authority can be authorized and you can begin crossing state lines.

What does lifetime compliance support look like?

It means you have an expert in your corner forever. Whether you are notified about an upcoming audit, looking to change or expand your operations, or just have general questions to keep yourself informed — we’re there to help. You’ll work directly with one of our experienced compliance agents who you can call, text, or email anytime you have questions.

“I thought all I needed was a DOT Number and MC Number?”

This is a common point of confusion for many of the carriers we work with. In reality, obtaining a DOT & MC number is just the first step in the process for most carriers. Depending on your operation type, the cargo you carry, the vehicles you use, and the states you operate in, there are both State & Federal safety regulations that you must comply with to operate legally and pass any audits or inspections. This package provides comprehensive compliance based on the package you select for your vehicle types. After your purchase, you’ll have a follow-up consultation with your assigned compliance expert to identify any State permits or requirements that were not covered with your package to ensure there are no gaps in compliance.
