Fast & Reliable BOC-3 Filing to Keep Your Operations Moving

As an officially approved provider on the FMCSA's list of process agents, we offer nationwide BOC-3 filing to ensure your trucking company, brokerage, or freight forwarding operation remains compliant and active.

What is a BOC-3 Filing?

Getting the ability to operate across state lines as a for-hire carrier requires more than just applying for an MC number. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) mandates that all interstate & for-hire transportation companies designate a process agent in every state they operate.

This is done through a Form BOC-3 filing.

A Form BOC-3 (Designation of Process Agents) is a mandatory federal filing that appoints a process agent to accept legal documents on your behalf in every state. If a legal action were to be filed against your company, the process agent is the official point of contact in that state to receive the court papers.

At Total Insight Professional Services, we make this critical step simple, fast, and worry-free. With nearly 20 years of direct industry experience, we handle your filing quickly, effectively, and ensure your MC number gets approved as fast as possible.

Who is required to have one?

  • For-Hire Motor Carriers: Companies transporting passengers or cargo for a fee.

  • Brokers: Companies arranging transportation of property.

  • Freight Forwarders: Companies that assemble and consolidate shipments.

Obtaining a BOC-3 isn’t a recommendation, it’s a requirement if you’re applying for an operating authority with the FMCSA. Without a BOC-3, your authority will not become authorized. Any authority, including MC numbers, are automatically dismissed by the FMCSA after 90 days of applying if the applicant has failed to provide proof of insurance & a BOC-3 filing.

Additionally, if your BOC-3 is removed from your authority for any reason, the authority will be involuntarily revoked unless a replacement is filed within a few weeks.

BOC-3 : Frequently Asked Questions

  • The FMCSA requires you to designate a third party in any state where you do not have a physical office and cannot be personally served. A blanket agent like us is the most efficient way to meet this requirement.

  • The filing itself is instant. Once we submit your form electronically, the FMCSA's records are updated immediately.

  • No, a standard BOC-3 filing does not expire. You only need to file a new one if you change your company name, transfer your authority, or choose a new process agent.

Be aware that some blanket companies choose to charge an annual rate for their BOC-3. At TIPS, all of our BOC-3 filings are lifetime. Which means they do not need to be renewed or re-registered.

  • As your designated process agent, we are legally required to forward any service of process we receive on your behalf to you in a timely manner. We will immediately send all documents to the contact address you have on file with us.
