Who Needs This Package?

Carriers operating cargo vans or sprinter vans under 10,001 lbs gross vehicle weight rating. Federal rules only require a DOT number above that weight, but most load boards require an MC number to book freight even for smaller vehicles, and you cannot get an MC without a DOT. This package gets you legal and gives you access to those boards. It fits new delivery companies, expediters, and owner-operators moving small freight interstate.

What Happens After I Order?

We contact you to confirm the company details you entered in the cart form and collect your business verification documents: your Articles of Organization or Incorporation and your EIN confirmation letter. The names on both must match. You'll also complete the FMCSA's electronic identity verification, which requires a US identity card. Then we file your DOT and MC together.

Most new applications now go into manual review at the FMCSA, which can take a few days up to a few weeks. We keep you posted throughout. Once your USDOT number is issued, your MC authority generates the next business day. We attach your BOC-3 and walk you through your insurance requirements. When your insurance is on file and the FMCSA's waiting period ends, your authority goes active and you can start booking loads.

Do I even need a DOT number for a cargo van?+

Federal rules only require a DOT number for vehicles over 10,001 lbs. But most load boards require an MC number to book freight, and you can't get an MC without a DOT. So practically speaking, yes.

What about driver files and drug testing?+

Not for this package. Driver qualification files apply to vehicles rated 10,001 lbs or more, and DOT drug testing applies to drivers who need a CDL. A cargo van under 10,001 lbs with a non-CDL driver needs neither.

Can I add a driver file later?+

Yes. If you grow into larger vehicles or want the documentation for your records, you can add driver files anytime.

What insurance do I need?+

You will need $300,000 in commercial bodily injury & property damage (BIPD). We'll connect you with our insurance partner to answer your questions and provide quotes.

How long until I can start hauling?+

We file as soon as we have your documents and identity verification. The FMCSA routes most new DOT applications into manual review, which can take a few days up to a few weeks. After your MC is granted, the FMCSA imposes a short waiting period, and your insurance must be on file before your authority goes active. We keep you posted at every step.

Do I need an LLC and EIN before I order?+

Yes. The FMCSA's MOTUS system requires business verification documents when we file: your Articles of Organization or Incorporation and your EIN confirmation letter, with matching names. If you don't have them yet, we offer LLC filing and EIN application services so you can get everything in one place.

What's the difference between this and the Box Truck package?+

The vehicle. At 10,001 lbs gross vehicle weight rating, federal requirements expand, and the Box Truck Start-Up Package is built for that. If your van or truck is rated 10,001 lbs or more, that's your package. Under 10,001 lbs, this is the one.

What do I have to renew after the first year?+

Your UCR renews every calendar year, and the FMCSA requires a biennial MCS-150 update every two years. We can handle both when they come due, and lifetime compliance support means you can call or text us before you file anything.
