Who Needs an Ohio CPCN?
For-hire motor carriers operating point-to-point within Ohio (intrastate commerce) must have a CPCN from PUCO before beginning operations. If you operate across state lines with federal MC authority and maintain current UCR registration, you do need to obtain the initial CPCN, but do not need to renew it the following years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do interstate carriers need a CPCN? No. If you operate under federal MC authority and keep your UCR registration current, you do not need a separate Ohio CPCN for interstate work. The CPCN is specifically for intrastate operations within Ohio.
What if I do both interstate and intrastate work? Then you just need to ensure your UCR is filed each year.
Do I need to renew annually? Intrastate carriers must renew their CPCN annually.
