What is an MVR?
A Motor Vehicle Record shows a driver's history of traffic violations, accidents, license suspensions, and other driving-related information from their state of licensure. Motor carriers must pull an MVR for each driver before hiring and at least once every 12 months thereafter.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to pull an MVR? Before hiring a new driver and annually for all current drivers. You also need a new MVR if a driver's license is renewed or transferred to a different state.
What's the difference between an MVR and CDLIS? An MVR comes from one state and shows that state's records. A CDLIS check queries the national CDL database for violations and license status across all states. CDL drivers should have both.
Can I pull MVRs myself? You can request records directly from each state DMV, but every state has different processes and fees. We handle all 50 states and deliver records in a consistent format.
How far back does an MVR go? It varies by state. Most states provide 3-5 years of history, but some go back further.
