What is the Clearinghouse?
The FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is a federal database that tracks drug and alcohol violations by CDL drivers. Employers must query the Clearinghouse before hiring a CDL driver and at least once per year for all current CDL drivers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as driver registration? No. Drivers register their own accounts in the Clearinghouse. Employers register separate employer accounts. You need an employer account to query your drivers.
Can I run queries without an employer account? No. You must have a registered employer account to run pre-employment and annual queries on CDL drivers.
What do Clearinghouse queries cost? The FMCSA charges $1.25 per limited query. Full queries that return violation details cost $1.25 plus require driver consent. We can handle queries for you through our Query Management service, with query costs included.
Do I need this if I only have one driver? Yes. Even owner-operators who drive their own trucks need an employer Clearinghouse account to run queries on themselves.
