What is a Corrective Action Plan?
When you receive a conditional or unsatisfactory safety rating from an FMCSA compliance review, you must submit a corrective action plan within a specified timeframe. The plan must acknowledge each violation, explain what caused it, describe what you are doing to fix it, and show how you will prevent it from happening again.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I have to respond? Times may vary. Generally, if you just failed an audit, you only have 15 days to prepare and submit a CAP to ensure it is reviewed and approved before you are placed out of service. If you’re already out of service, a response can be sent at any time.
What happens if I do not respond? Your authority may be revoked and your DOT number will be placed out-of-service if you do not submit a satisfactory corrective action plan within the required timeframe.
Do you guarantee the outcome? No one can guarantee the FMCSA's decision. But a well-prepared corrective action plan significantly improves your chances of a favorable outcome, and TIPS has a 100% success rate in getting CAPs approved and carriers back in service.
